to join our Competence Center Cultural Heritage Digitization as soon as possible with optional extension to B.Sc. or M.Sc. thesis.

Was Sie mitbringen

  • Advanced skills in C++, good skills in Matlab advantageous, good code-documenting habits
  • Basic knowledge of C++ libraries, such as VTK, OpenGL, OpenCV, Qt, Eigen is advantageous
  • Knowledge in linear algebra, image processing, 3D rendering, point cloud & mesh representations

Was Sie erwarten können

In the cultural heritage domain artifacts come in high variety and uniqueness. To ensure complete and accurate 3D reconstruction of arbitrary objects it is important to carefully position scanners with respect to the object’s surface geometry as well as the scanner’s measurement volume. This is a challenging and time consuming task even for skilled scanning operators. Next best view planning techniques can be applied in an iterative way to automate the process and successively complete the digital 3D representation of an arbitrary object using a feedback loop comprising 3 subtasks: planning, positioning and scanning.
Your task will be to focus on the planning step and implement, evaluate and improve algorithms that analyze the partial 3D scanning results (e.g. point cloud, voxels or mesh) and plan the next best views to the object in order to finally complete the scanning process with respect to a given quality criterion. For time-efficient and complete 3D reconstruction, scanning views must be prioritized with respect to their information gain and holes / missing parts on the surface geometry (caused by, e.g., occlusions) must be found and resolved.

Die Stelle ist zunächst auf 3 Monate befristet.
Die wöchentliche Arbeitszeit beträgt zwischen 10 - 20 Stunden.
