Master Thesis "Development of a simple biosensors for detecting plants pathogen"

Fraunhofer EMFT conducts cutting-edge applied research on sensors and actuators for people and the environment. The over 120 employees in the three locations in Munich, Oberpfaffenhofen and Regensburg possess impressive long-term experience and wide-ranging know-how in the fields of microelectronics and microsystem technology. The technology offering of the research institution ranges from semiconductor processes and MEMS technologies over 3D integration to foil electronics. 
The microelectronics technology made possible the realization of microelectrodes and their reproducibility for measuring very low currents. Such small-size electrodes are actually used as transducers for chemical and biological sensors.


As a first step towards the development of a simple biosensor for detecting plants pathogen, we aim to develop a low-cost, fast, and ultrasensitive label-free electrochemical biosensor allowing the detection of low concentrations of some specific biomarkers.


  • Evaluation and characterization of microelectrodes by cyclic voltammetry (CV),
  • Functionalization of the electrodes surface,
  • Study of the effect of experimental conditions (temperature, pH value and etc.) on the recorded signal by the microelectrodes
  • Development of a simple detection procedures for sensing special plants pathogens
  • What we expect from you

    • Study of microsystems technology , physics, chemistry, applied science, electronic engineering or chemical engineering or comparable studies
    • Independent working ability
    • Good English or German writing skills
