Team Leader Embedded AI

In the previous years, Fraunhofer IIS has rapidly expanded its activities and efforts in embedded AI and neuromorphic computing. In close cooperation with three more research groups, the newly formed group "Embedded AI" will focus on the development of concepts and architectures for the acceleration of (analog and digital) deep learning inference as well as spiking neural networks. In addition, the research team develops and uses AI algorithms running on resource-limited processors. As our team of dedicated experts is growing quickly, they are now looking for an equally ambitious manager. Are you ready to play a pivotal role in our mission to make Erlangen one of the top centers for neuromorphic computing in Europe?

Your tasks:

Together with the head of the department, you will be responsible for the group’s budget. You will maintain business contacts with public funding authorities, industry partners, universities, and other research institutions. Beyond that, you are responsible for the personnel management and development of the experts reporting directly to you.
You will identify new application fields and, together with our business development, you will acquire new projects and funding. Together with the business field experts you will also continuously develop our vision and research road map, integrating your ideas into the strategies of both department and division.

What we expect from you

  • Enthusiasm for the topics embedded AI and neuromorphic computing
  • A scientific degree, as well as a basic understanding of the principles of AI, signal processing, and hardware development as well as the readiness to familiarize yourself with embedded AI
  • An entrepreneurial sense for business and the ability to transfer research results into applications
  • Prior leadership and/or project management experience
  • The ability to build and expand networks and to represent your topic
  • Fluency in English and the willingness to quickly acquire German language skills
