Project Manager* Offshore Wind Measurements

Who we are …
Wind energy is our primary focus. Our institute is home to more than 300 employees and students from over 30 countries pursuing careers in applied research and development in the field of wind energy use. The key aspect here is the production of electricity and hydrogen. Our successful combination: an internationally unparalleled testing infrastructure and comprehensive methods expertise in the reliability and validation of wind turbines and wind farms as well as the smart system integration of wind energy in future energy supply systems.

What is the group »Lidar based Wind Measurement« about?
The group’s focus is on the utilization of Lidar technology in wind energy, in particular in offshore applications. Our aim is to develop methods and tools which can be employed in the industry for wind measurement in the future and generate added value for industry and society alike. The group’s main activity at present is the Fraunhofer IWES Lidar wind buoy, which is used both on behalf of wind farm developers to determine the wind potential and for offshore wind measurements in research projects. In addition, we are increasingly focusing on the use of scanning Lidar and are now establishing a new key work focus on wind field measurement with radar.

The duties awaiting you …
You acquire and handle scientific measurement projects in close cooperation with your colleagues. Once you have found your feet in the role, you will also take over the management of projects. That means that you will be responsible for the budget, crew management, and meeting all deadlines. Resource and equipment planning as well as improving the wind Lidar buoy production processes are also part of your duties. Close communication with our customers is also important in this respect. In addition, you will plan and manage the offshore deployments for the scientific measurement campaigns, especially the wind Lidar buoy. This includes, among other things, communication with internal and external service providers, the correct documentation according to occupational health and safety standards, and the preparation of reports.

No two days are ever the same!
As keeping up with the state of the art in the field is essential for the handling of projects and scientific further development, you will also spend a large part of your time engaged in research. In addition, you will compile research applications and project reports. You will analyze internal projects and optimize them in terms of occupational health and safety, quality, costs, output, productivity, etc. You will impart your own research ideas, allowing you to shape your field of work.

Our strength lies in our cooperation.
We are approachable, share our expertise, and offer each other support, even when the duties in question are not our own. In order to take all aspects of projects into consideration, we all work together closely, irrespective of our backgrounds.

You have completed a  Diploma / Master’s degree with an Engineering major?
Have you already been able to put your excellent project management expertise to the test in your day-to-day work? Perhaps you have already even managed whole projects or project modules independently? You are well acquainted with wind energy and maybe you have already had the opportunity to expand your knowledge about Lidar during your years of work? We would be delighted if you could impart your expertise from day 1! Have you already gathered industrial expertise and know what the requirements in the field are? If you are also no stranger to production engineering, automation, and digitalization, then you are the person we are looking for. You will present your results to your team and our customers as well as at conferences. This is not a problem for you in both English and German.

Where do you see yourself in the future?
The further development of our employees is a matter of great importance to us.
