Implementation of interaction mechanisms between robot programming frameworks - Thesis

Due to the non-existent standardization in the robotics domain, the task of integrating devices from different vendors is very tedious and costly. One of our newest initiatives targets the easy integration and deployment of complex robotics systems by using model-driven engineering techniques for software development. In this context, a challenge that we aim to address is the interoperability between existing frameworks and communication protocols.

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to research and implement a prototype solution to mitigate these shortcommings.

Was Sie mitbringen


Required:

  • Ability to work independently
  • Programming skills, preferred Java and C++
  • Motivation to learn and perform challenging tasks
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills

Preferred:

  • Experience Modellig Software Frameworks (e.g. Eclipse)
  • Experience with the Robot Operating System (ROS) framework
  • Experience using version control systems, specially GitHub

Among the activities to be accomplished for this position are the following:

  • Investigate the communication interfaces and protocols used by the most popular component-based middlewares in robotics (ROS, ROS2, OPC-UA and MQTT).
  • Identification of the common design patterns
  • Develop a model-based tool for automatic transformation of the communication mechanisms
